THE IRISHMAN is good! takes 90 minutes to lock in & clear out the cobwebs / adjust to CGI, but the scope is a virtue, the performances are killer (Joseph! Frank! Pesci!) & it eventually coheres into a heart-stopping meditation on the myopia of time. an old man movie for the ages.

The artifice of de-aging is more feature than bug.

It’s not “slow.” It often moves like lightening & elsewhere it’s downright Bressonian.

My full review will be up later, but let me just add: this is De Niro's best work in YEARS. And while Pacino is great in a flashy role, Pesci really steals the show, turning in probably the most quiet performance of his career

The story is complex without ever being convoluted, exploring both sides of the loyalty coin that speaks volumes about today’s politics. The whole cast is at their A-game here (ESPECIALLY Pacino). This is also similar to what Tarantino did with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, in that Scorsese is exploring new territory here. Anyway THE IRISHMAN is like a movie genetically engineered to my interests so take my recommendation or leave it, but I think it’s a terrific picture - and an A+ example of a late period director saying, “oh, this is what you want?” and stabbing you in the fucking neck with it
